Dr. Wan Cheng from KAUST Gave an Invited Talk

On June 9, 2018, Dr. Wan Cheng from KAUST gave an invited talk titled " prediction of unsteady separation in wall-bounded turbulent flows using large-eddy simulation". Dr. Wan Cheng received Ph.D. from University of Science and Technology of China. After that he joined KAUST, Caltech as postdoc scholar from 2011 to 2015, and now he is a research scientist in Physical Science and Engineering at KAUST. Prof. Yue Yang of Peking University hosted the seminar.

In Dr. Cheng's study, their main contribution is the development and application of wall and sub-grid scale models in large-eddy simulation (LES) of wall-bounded turbulent flows. Dr. Cheng presented LES of the flow past a cylinder, flow past a grooved cylinder and flow past a rotating cylinder. Their LES accurately predicted turbulent flow with unsteady separation for flat-plate turbulent boundary layer with separation/reattachment. After the lecture, LTCS faculty and students had a stimulating discussion with Dr. Wan Cheng.
