Five faculty members of the College of Engineering named 2017 Highly Cited Researchers

Recently, Clarivate Analytics announced 2017 Highly Cited Researchers, which is an annual list recognizing leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences from around the world.

The new list contains over 3000 Highly Cited Researchers in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences, including 249 Chinese researchers. Among them, 13 researchers are from Peking University and 5 from the College of Engineering, including Prof. Steven Feng Chen, Associate Prof. Shaojun Guo, Prof. Zhisheng Duan, Prof. Long Wang, and Prof. Xiaowei Zhan.

The 2017 list focuses on contemporary research achievement: only Highly Cited Papers in science and social sciences journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection during the 11-year period 2005-2015 were surveyed.

Highly Cited Papers are defined as those that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science. This data derives from Essential Science Indicators (ESI). The fields are also those employed in ESI – 21 broad fields defined by sets of journals.

The United States ranked No. 1, with 1,644 highly cited scientists, an increase of 12% over the list of "highly cited scientists" in 2016. Britain ranked second with 344 researchers. China ranks third with 249 researchers selected, achieving the highest growth of 41%.
