    Prof. Xiaohua Wu of Royal Military College of Canada visited LTCS

Prof. Xiaohua Wu visited the State Key Laboratory for Turbulence and Complex Systems (LTCS) and delivered an insightful seminar talk on turbulent spot and scalar flash of pipe flow transition. Dr. Wu is the Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Royal Military College of Canada.

Audience of the lecture

Prof. Wu introduced the division of turbulent spots that was discovered by Lindgrenin 1959 and the scalar flash that was discovered by Reynoldsin 1883. Using the direct numerical simulation, he studied and reported three aspects of flow transition in pipe:

1.The kinetics process of the formation of turbulent spot in the flow transition and the relationship with the boundary layer transition;

2.The continuous evolution of scalar flash which is in the flow, and its specific form in the fully developed turbulent region;

3.The kinetics process of turbulent spot division in the pipe flow transition and the relationship with the instantaneous strain rate of flow field.
