The 7th International Symposium on Physics of Fluid was hosted by the State Key laboratory for Turbulence and Complex Systems(LTCS) in Guiyang

The 7th International Symposium on Physics of Fluids (ISPF7) was successfully held in Guiyang, Guizhou province, from June 12 to 15 in 2017. This symposium was jointly organized by Peking University, the National University of Singapore and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and was hosted by the State Key Laboratory for Turbulence and Complex Systems(LTCS) at Peking University. The meeting received 124 articles and had 137 participants. Prof. Giacomin, Queen's University, Canada, Prof. Jiequan Li, Institute of Engineering Physics, Prof. Ruizhen Yang, National Cheng Kung University, and Prof. Khoo, National University of Singapore delivered invited presentations. The symposium has 23 sessions and over one hundred academic.

Prof. Cunbiao Li of Peking University, chairman of the Symposium, delivered the opening speech. Prof. Li pointed out that fluid mechanics and thermodynamics as a tool for us are widely used in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering, their application has spreaded to a wide range of relevant fields, such as micro-electromechanical system(MEMS), bio-engineering, nano-technology, and so on. Prof. Li stressed that the theme of this conference is to highlight the current advances and future research and development in physics of fluids with primary focus on the connection between fundamental research and engineering applications. The aim is to assess the current status and to identify the future priority and directions in research and applications in fluid physics. Prof. Li then introduced the history of International Symposium on Physics of Fluids and the current development of fluid mechanics in China.

Through this conference, domestic and foreign scholars have fully exchanged the research progress. In addition to the four invited talks, the conference also hadover one hundred of contributed talks on seven different topics, including two special seminars on microfluidics and advanced materials. Most of the papers in the meeting will be published in the form of the special issue in Modern Physics Letters B (MPLB). Some of high-quality conference will be published in the POF. The meeting also established the POF Distinguished Young Scholar Award. The award was selected by the organizing committee, and 15 young scholars were awarded.

The scale of the symposium has expanded significantly and has attracted the attention of the American Institute of Physics. At the end of the meeting, Prof. Cunbiao Li summarized the results of the meeting and expressed gratitude to the meeting staff, and invited all the meeting participants to visit the LTCS.

These POF meetings series, which has been held seven times, was jointly sponsored by Peking University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and National University of Singapore, and was held every two years, with growing influence and participants. Prof. Giacomin, Editor-in-Chief of POF, expressed that he is willing support and attend the next International Symposium of POF.
