题目:Ocean Environment and Ocean Energy -From Waveless Hulls to Ocean Renewable Energy
报告人 Professor Ronald W. Yeung, Ph.D.
Fluid Mechanics, Ocean Engineering, & Computations
Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of California at Berkeley
报告内容摘要:
The marine environment is crucial for commerce, defense, recreation, and as a reservoir of natural resources and climatic balance. Ocean engineers analyze, design, and construct complex systems operating in this environment. In this presentation, a plenary view is given on the Ocean Engineering Program of Major Field of Study at The University of California at Berkeley. Ongoing research topics at the CMML (Computational Marine Mechanics Laboratory) facility of the speaker are briefly described. These include: optimal configuration design of multi-hulls for powering minimization; fluid dynamics of bilge-keels in rolling motion with respect to ship-motion prediction, and renewable energy extraction in the context of tidal current and ocean waves.
报告人简介:
Professor Ronald W. Yeung received his Ph.D. from University of California at Berkeley in 1973 and had taught at MIT's Ocean Engineering Department from 1973 to 1982. Prior to his Ph.D. studies, for two years, he staffed at Litton Ship Systems and was involved in the design of several classes of naval ships. He joined the faculty of UC Berkeley in 1982 and has been a Distinguished Professor of Hydromechanics and Ocean Engineering since 1996. An elected Fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) in 1996, he has contributed broadly to research in marine fluid mechanics and offshore hydrodynamics. Foremost, he is known for his works in free-surface flow modeling and in viscosity effects on floating-body hydrodynamics. Among the major awards he has received were: "Best-Paper Awards" from ASME-OMAE in 1991 and 2002; Fulbright-Hayes Senior Scholar of the Australian-American Education Foundation in 1981; Distinguished US Scientist of the von Humboldt Foundation of Germany in 1988 and 1998; The 2002-2003 Georg Weinblum Lectureship of the German Schiffbaugesellschaft and U.S. Naval Studies Board. In 2004, he was recognized as the SNAME Kenneth Davidson Medallist for Outstanding Scientific Accomplishments in Ship Research. In 2006, he received the Bill Zimmie Award of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. The same year, he was also named the Pi-Tau Sigma Professor of the Year at UC Berkeley for Excellence in Teaching. He has supervised more than 70 graduate theses, including 19 PhD's. In 2008, he received "The International Researcher Award" of the Brazilian Society of Marine Engineers (SOBENA) in Rio de Janeiro.
