Abstract:
This research talk provides a short walk through his research and teaching experiences. In the first part of the talk, an overview on his research work during PhD study and postdoctoral research is provided. Two major topics will be covered: 1) A generalized weighted completion time deviation (GWCD) model; and 2) A crew scheduling problem in furnace department. On the first topic, the background and the significance of the GWCD model will be briefly reviewed. Some of its most promising optimality properties and the possible applications will also be discussed; On the second topic, a novel approach on a scheduling problem are explained: how a difficult crew scheduling problem in the practical domain can be broken down into a series of relatively simpler theoretical problems of smaller scale, and how the solutions obtained from these theoretical models can be interpreted and applied in the practical context.
In the second part of this talk, a brief review the information system course and the data mining course based on his teaching will be given, and personal experience as well as understandings of domestic and international teaching will be discussed.
Finally in the last part of this talk, future research and teaching objectives are outlined, and the fundamental aspects in approaching these targets are addressed.
Bio Sketch:
Dr. Xiaoyun Xu received his PhD in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University in 2008. His research interests include combinatorial optimization, scheduling, simulation and data mining. He is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow at Department of Industrial Engineering and Management in Peking University. |
