Substantial progress has been made in business process modeling. These efforts have provided product development organizations both product development process models and also methodologies or algorithms for the modeling of product development processes. However, there is a substantial gap between industrial practicing and the advances made by research communities. This lag in industrial deployments is glaringly evident, especially in the light of contemporary communication protocols, advances in computer science, and modern design theories. Overall, the usefulness of product development process modeling is still questioned and not embraced by industries. Meanwhile, emerging design concepts, such as Web-based Collaborative Design, are enabling opportunities for utilizing the models developed and promoting the modeling and optimization of product development processes. This presentation is to highlight
1. Without the support from business process modeling, the deployments of web-based collaborative design will be frustrating and fruitless
2. Opportunities and challenges associated with the deployment of web-based design collaboration from an industrial practicing view point.
报告人简介
Dr. Xiaobo Wang is currently a principal reliability engineer at Medtronic, a leading developer and manufacturer of implantable medical device. He has more than 25 years product development experiences across multiple industries. He is an ASQ certified quality engineer and ASQ certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Dr. Wang has work as a six sigma master black belt for JDS Uniphase, Inc. and project manager for the development or improvement of multiple business systems. His interest in research areas includes bio-mechanics and design optimization, especially from the perspective of looking at product development as one of enterprise business processes, for the later.
