Abstract
The isotropic and homogeneous soil models commonly used for the propagation of waves in geophysical media are not compatible with the surface recordings available. In particular, the coda of the seismic recordings cannot be reproduced with these simple models, while diffusion models seem promising. In this presentation, we aim at discussing some indicators of the arising of the diffusion regime in a wave field propagating in an anisotropic elastic medium. In order to reach that goal, the beginning of the presentation will be focused on the numerical modeling of wave propagation in random anisotropic elastic media, with an aim at designing numerical experiments for illustrating the core of the presentation. Then, we present some results in the case of an elastic isotropic medium, where indicators of the onset of diffusion are theoretically known. Finally, some results in anisotropic media will be presented and discussed.
Biography
Dr. Regis Cottereau is a CNRS Research Professor at the MSSMat laboratory at Ecole Centrale Paris, France. He received an engineering diploma from both Ecole Centrale Paris (France) and Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spain) in 2002 and received his Ph.D. in Computational Mechanics from Ecole Centrale Paris in 2007. He was then a post-doctoral research associate at the Institut de Physique du Globe in Paris and at the Laboratori de Calcul Numeric (LaCaN) at the Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya (Spain). His areas of expertise are concerned with the development of stochastic methods for computational mechanics and wave propagation in random media, with a particular emphasis on geophysical applications.
