题目:Platinum Alloy Nanostructures Based on Solution Phase Synthesis
报告人 Hong Yang 教授

报告内容摘要:Structurally diverse nanoparticles of platinum alloys are the focus of this presentation, as they are the preferred catalysts used in many important chemical reactions including oxygen reduction and small molecule oxidations in the low-temperature membrane-based fuel cells. While various platinum alloys with certain shapes and hierarchical structures have been achieved, to synergistic control several structural parameters at the same time is still a challenge issue. In this talk, I will present a few examples to illustrate that solution phase synthesis may be one of the better approaches to address such problems. For instance, mixed alloys of PtAg nanostructures are produced through the colloidal synthesis, despite the fact that silver and platinum are immiscible in a wide range of compositions at low temperature in bulk materials. I will discuss the design and synthesis of nanoparticles, nanorods and worm-like network of several platinum alloys and the use of these nano-materials in several areas including durable and highly active fuel cell catalysts.
报告人简介:Hong Yang received a B.S. degree from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 1989 and a Ph.D. degree from University of Toronto (with Professor Geoffrey A. Ozin) in 1998. He then went to Harvard University and worked as a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) postdoctoral fellow with Professor George M. Whitesides. He moved to Rochester, New York in 2001 and started as an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at University of Rochester. He was awarded tenure and became an Associate Professor in 2006. Yang won one of two Doctoral Prizes in Natural Sciences from NSERC Canada in 1999. He holds a CAREER Award from U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). He served as a Guest Editor for Advanced Materials in 2007, and is an Editorial Advisory Board member of Nano Today (2008 impact factor: 8.795). He is also a continuing symposium co-chair on Nanostructured Materials for American Chemical Society, Division of Colloids and Interface Sciences. He has published more than sixty-six papers and two book chapters and holds five issued US patents. His work has been cited in about 4000 papers and the h-index of his publication is 30. His research interests include multifunctional nanostructured materials, platinum-based alloys and intermetallics, fuel cell catalysts, magnetic nanoparticles, porous solids, ionic liquids, surface modification, self-assembly, and nanomaterials for biological applications.
