Some facts about Painlevé paradoxes with a single and multiple sliding contact points

Speaker Prof. Bernard Brogliato
BIPOP team, INRIA, France

Abstract: Painlevé paradoxes occur in contact mechanics when there is a coupling between unilateral effects and Coulomb friction. This problems were raised by Paul Painlevé more than a century ago and may be seen as particular singularities occurring in rigid body dynamics. In this talk some results on the dynamics of the classical Painlevé paradoxes system (a rod sliding on a rough plane) will be summarized, and some preliminary ideas on possible extensions towards multi-contact systems will be given.
